At Right Hat, we’re proud of the work we do on behalf of a variety of charitable organizations.

The Pro Bono Project — Volunteer Lawyers Providing Access to Justice

One under-publicized aspect of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina involves the plight of a large number of New Orleans families who lost homes to which they had no clear title. Despite paying taxes and insurance for generations, these families—most of whom are African-American—were facing yet a second catastrophe in the form of insurance claim denial. Not only were insurance companies refusing to pay claims to people who had no proof of ownership, but at the same time, they were refusing to refund years of premiums paid by those people.

The Pro Bono Project is a civil legal aid organization that has worked tirelessly for these families—negotiating with insurance companies, intervening with government agencies, and, when necessary, going to court in their behalf. Their successes have been as notable and they are heartening.

Right Hat is pleased to serve on the group’s marketing committee, and we’ve done a wide range of creative work for their fund-raising efforts. We’re currently in the process of redoing their website. For more information on this extremely worthy organization, visit http://www.probono-no.org/

Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals

The recent recession has in many ways been as hard on animals as it has been on people. MSSPA knew it was facing a crisis when it saw the alarming number of horses being abandoned by owners who could no longer afford to feed them.

MSSPA turned to us to help them drive both public awareness of the problem and fund-raising efforts in their behalf—which we accomplished through a series of ads that ran in state publications. The money raised has launched a number of programs for feeding, care, and ultimate adoption of these horses. We’re happy to say the crisis is easing.
